Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Sixth Form College 

 

MPW in an independent sixth form college founded in 1973, with campuses in London, Birmingham and Cambridge. MPW mainly teaches GCSE and GCE A-levels, are also the options of 1-Year A-levels and Foundation Course, tailored to meet the needs of international students. Public exam results are consistently outstanding – A*-B rates in GCE A-levels were between 62% to 75% in the past five years (2015-2019).


MPW maintains the ratio of international students at 25% allowing them to truly experience British culture and learn together with local students. Among international students, the most popular chosen subjects are: business-related, engineering, physics, mathematics, law, computer and psychology. The college also provides preparatory courses for professional entrance examinations, including UKCAT, BMAT, LNAT and other university entrance examinations.

MPW University Foundation Programme

 

The MPW University Foundation Programme is your ideal route to studying a degree at leading universities across the UK and internationally.
Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will achieve an academic standard similar to A levels. In addition, the student will have gained essential English language and independent learning skills giving you the perfect platform for success at university and beyond. MPW offers NUCK University International Foundation Program.

NCUK International Foundation Year ( offer at MPW Birmingham and Cambridge Campus)

 

This course in MPW Birmingham and Cambridge Campus offers guaranteed progression to an undergraduate degree at a Northern Consortium of UK Universities (NCUK) university for candidate passing the program.


There is a September intake or January intake start two-term foundation programme provide access to an extensive range of degree programmes.  For  the Course content, the student will require to study 2 parts of course, 3 core subjects and English for Academic Purposes:

1.    Three Core Subjects : 
Like A Levels, you choose three academic modules from the list below depending on which degree you want to study at university. You may also need to study one of our English for Academic Purposes modules. You can choose 3 subjects from:

  • Mathematics for Business

  • Mathematics for Engineering

  • Mathematics for Science

  • Further Mathematics

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Physics

  • Business Studies

  • Economics

  • International Relations

  • Society and Politics

  • Art and Design – This module supports students in the preparation of a portfolio in order to apply for UK university programmes in a range of art-related subjects.

2.    English for Academic Purposes:

  • All NCUK English modules provide essential preparation for university study. The options are:

  • English for Academic Purposes for non-native speakers of English

  • English for Academic Purposes for Proficient Users for students who have previously studied in English but need a an English language qualification for visa purposes

  • Research and Communications Skills for students who already have an English language qualification such as IELTS.

Programme Assessment

 

The NCUK IFY is assessed 30% by Coursework and 70% by examination. All assessments are set and moderated by NCUK.

The Entry Requirements

 

The student interested must be 17 years old and have completed 12 years of high school education and have a recognised English language qualification e.g. IELTS 5.0.
